Honeycomb cores are used in the fabrication of lightweight structures. The core material is typically 'sandwiched' between skins of plywood, aluminum, FRP composite material, steel, granite, solid surface materials, paper etc. To attach the 'skin' material to the honeycomb core, a bonding adhesive can be used or the materials can be laminated with polyester or epoxy systems. The resultant honeycomb panel results in one of the highest strength to weight core constructions available.
Polycore Technology has two kinds of plastic honeycomb:
One is PP honeycomb which can be supplied with both sides laminated with non-woven polyester tissue in either 40 g/m2 or 60g/m?. This allows better bonding of the honeycomb to different panels. In addition to the tissue, honeycomb can be supplied with a PP film. The film under the tissue acts as a barrier to prevent resin leaking into the core and thus save resin consumption. This allows the honeycomb to be put into applications without using additional panels in special project.
PP honeycomb sheet can be laminated with foam on the both sides and made to customer requirement, so it can be widely used in sports activity provide safety protection for sportsman, such as elbow protector, kneepad, chest protector, helm, crash helmet,. Honeycomb core energy absorption property and high anti-pressing strength improve protection.
